TRIP INFORMATION

Mt.Gasherbrum I, often referred to as the ‘hidden peak’, is the tallest peak within the Gasherbrum peaks and the 11th tallest in the world, with height 8,091m(8.091km). This mountain is also referred to as ‘Mt.K5’ as it is the 5th peak of the great Karakoram mountain range.

The Karakoram range comprises a total of 35 peaks. The name Gasherbrum came from the words ‘rgasha’ and ‘brum’ meaning ‘beautiful mountain’ in Balti language. The mountain’s remote location and its invisibility from the Baltoro Glacier have earned it the title of the ‘hidden peak’.

Mt.Gasherbrum lies in the border of China and Pakistan and is a good option for anyone who wants to try low risked technical climbing. Climbers have to go through steep trails of snow at first. As they climb upward they have to go through frozen rocks.

Once they cross these, the climbing becomes easier near the top as now there will be mixed slopes which are easy to climb. Even though Mt.Gasherbrum I is the least popular among other 8,000 m peaks, it still offers you with excellent and breathtaking views of the massive peaks and the expedition itself is refreshing.

When is Mt.Gasherbrum I usually climbed?

The best season for an expedition to Mt.Gasherbrum I is during summer when there is less snowfall and the weather is somewhat less harsh and comparatively warm. However, there are expert and experienced travellers who want to level up their adventure and climb during winter.

Even though climbing during winter is very hard compared to summer, there are still plenty of people who want to climb Mt.Gasherbrum I during winter.

How hard is it to climb Mt.Gasherbrum I?

Climbing Mt.Gasherbrum I is challenging but not as hard as climbing other mountains like MT.K2 or Nanga Parbat. There are the usual challenges like altitude sickness and chances of avalanches.

Besides these, it also requires some technical climbing skills but not as much as mountains like Mt.K2 or Nanga Parbat. So, with experienced proper guidance, one can climb the mountain with ease.

How long does it take to climb Mt.Gasherbrum I?

Climbing Mt.Gasherbrum I might be an adventurous, thrilling and self-refreshing activity yet it is dangerous too so making a rush might not be the best thing to do considering your safety.
