This mountain is one of the peaks of the great Karakoram mountain range. The Karakoram range comprises a total of 35 peaks. Broad Peak is famous as ‘Phalchan Kangri’ among the local Balti people. The name ‘Broad Peak’ was given by an English explorer. Broad Peak Expedition doesn’t require any or very less technical climbing because of which it has earned the title of the ‘easy peak’.
Broad Peak lies on the border of China and Pakistan and is a great option for climbers seeking an 8,000 m experience with comparatively lower technical risk. The mountain has multiple summits, including Broad Peak North (7,490 m), Broad Peak Central (8,011 m), the main summit (8,051 m), Kharut Kangri (6,942 m), and the Rocky Summit (8,028 m). Difficulty to Climb
Broad Peak is comparatively easier to climb than mountains like Mt. K2 or Nanga Parbat, as it involves less technical climbing. However, this does not mean the ascent should be underestimated. Only experienced and well-prepared climbers can attempt this mountain. Climbers must navigate long, steep slopes that become increasingly dangerous with altitude. In such conditions, it is essential to plan himalayan climbing logistics effectively, as proper strategy, acclimatization, and coordination play a crucial role. There is also a constant risk of avalanches, and climbers must cross exposed ridges to move between its five summits, adding both time and complexity to the expedition.
