TRIP INFORMATION

Lhotse Shar measures 8,383m (8.383km) and lies on the border of Nepal and Tibet. It is one of the two subsidiary peaks of Mt. Lhotse. Mt. Lhotse is the fourth tallest mountain with its long east-west crest lying south of Mt. Everest.

Its vertical ridge of height 8000m, called the South Col, joins its summit with that of  Mt. Everest. ‘Lhotse’, when translated to Tibetan, means the ‘South Peak’.

Climbing Lhotse Shar is refreshing as well as an adventurous trip. The climbers get to witness the massive structure of the mountain. They also get a chance to be closer to the unaltered beauty of nature.

The slopes and snows shining under the sunlight are other eye-pleasing views. Lhotse Shar is also an alternative route to reach Mt. Everest summit. Lhotse Shar provides a heartwarming experience to its climbers. It is also an escape from the day-to-day hustle for those who want to have some adventure in their life.

Lhotse Shar Climbing Difficulties

Even though Lhotse Shar is not as tall as Mt. Everest, it still measures 8,383m which still is a great height. Lhotse Shar is one of the subsidiary peaks and has the highest rate when it comes to fatality.

Every one in two people who attempt to climb this peak dies during their ascend. There is the usual altitude sickness that one has to go through. Also, going through its couloir is equally difficult because of the frequent rockfalls. The massive height with the unpredictable weather is itself dangerous.

Besides these, climbing the mountain is another danger as the human body starts to feel the need for oxygen with the increase in height. One also has to face extreme conditions like frostbites with blood embolism, pulmonary edema and cerebral edema. It makes the trip more challenging and dangerous.

How hard is it to climb Lhotse Shar?

Standing tall at 8,410m, climbing Mt. Lhotse Shar is as hard as climbing other high mountains. It has the highest rate when it comes to fatality among any other high mountains having a height of more than 8,000m.
