Ama Yangri Trek – 6 Days Overview

Ama Yangri Trek is one of the shortest treks from Kathmandu, yet the most beautiful peak is located in the Helambu region, Sindupalchok. Ama Yangri is one of the holy peaks at 3771m from sea level. Helambu region is popular for a lot of trekking destinations. However, Ama Yangri is one of the less explored areas with off-beaten paths.

Ama Yangri is also known as Poonhill of Helambu region and Ama Jyomoyangri locally. The word Ama Yangri is a combination of two sacred words, “Ama” (Mother) and Yangri (Goddess). “ Ama Yangri is the deity of the Helambu region that protects people and places from evil.

Throughout the journey, you will travel through gorgeous routes. These routes will take you through deep forests, quaint villages, and terraced farms. The highlight of the trek is reaching the top of Ama Yangri. From there, you will enjoy panoramic vistas of snow-capped peaks. Some of these peaks include Langtang Lirung, Ganesh Himal, and Jugal Himal.

You will be able to immerse yourself in the rich local culture of the Tamang and Sherpa communities along the way. Interact with the welcoming inhabitants, learn about their traditional way of life, and enjoy their warm hospitality.

The Ama Yangri trek is moderate and ideal for novice and experienced trekkers. Marvel Treks guarantees a well-organized trek with knowledgeable guides who offer aid and insights along the journey.

Ama Yangri is lagging behind tourism and is not much famous among people even though the place is very deserving.

Trip Map

Best Season to Go

The best season to trek Helambu Ama Yangri peak is in spring (March-May) and autumn (September- November). In this season the temperature is very favorable, and the views are very clear with crystal blue sky. You can see a green forest, Rhododendrons, and beautiful mountain views.

This season doesn’t receive much rainfall and the trails are in the best condition. It is still possible to trek in the Monsoon season and winter season but due to heavy rainfall and snowfall, you have to be more careful with the trails since they are muddy and slippery.

Other Requirements

Travel Insurance

You can always purchase your travel insurance. It usually costs around 150$(15000 NRS) good for 30 days. It is important to mention or cover high altitudes since trekkers sometimes really need to be evacuated from helicopters.

Guides and porters
Ama Yangri is quite an easy trek, if you are an experienced trekker and know well about the directions there is no definite reason to hire a guide. But if you are a beginner and want to know additional information about the places then you can hire a guide. They usually charge you 20-25$ per day. For porters if you are physically strong and can carry your own belonging then there is no need for a porter however If you want to enjoy your trek without any extra burden then you can hire a porter. They usually charge you 15-20$ per day.
Permits and fees
TIMs-this permit includes the details of every trekker and is mandatory to have with you. This costs 1000 NRS (10$) per trekker if you are in a group. If you are a solo traveler it cost you 2000 NRS (20 $) Langtang National Park permits- trekking to Helambu also means entering Langtang national park so you need to have a permit for this. This permit costs you 3000 NRS (30$) excluding 13% VAT. Shivapuri Nagarjuna Park entrance fee- this cost you 5$ excluding 13% VAT to every foreigner besides SAARC counties. They only have to pay 3 $ excluding 13% VAT.
Safety and fitness
Trek to Helambu Ama Yangri can be defined as an easy to moderately difficult trek. The walking hours are 5-6 hours per day which does not necessarily require past experience of trekking. However, it is always better to practice and prepare yourself for the journey. You can do light exercises, running, and jogging before your trek starts.
