4 Days Mera Peak Climbing Overview

The 4 Days Mera Peak Climbing is an exhilarating adventure that takes you to the summit of Mera Peak, one of the highest trekking peaks in Nepal. This short climbing adventure is suitable for experienced trekkers who want to challenge themselves. One can experience the thrill of climbing a Himalayan peak in a relatively short time frame.

Mera Peak (6476m) is the highest trekking peak in Nepal, with its 3 summits, Mera North, Mera South, and Mera Central. It is one of the most popular and most climbed peaks which lies in the Sagarmatha region, Mahalangur range. Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Percival Hillary, who were the first climbers of Mount Everest, also started the trend of climbing the Mera Peak before and after the Everest ascent.

Since then, Mera Peak has always been people’s favorite. The trail to Mera Peak passes through unique Sherpa settlements, lush forests, suspension bridges, traditional Gompas, monasteries, and many more. However, an awe-inspiring view of Mt Everest, Kanchenjunga, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho-Oyu from its summit is one of the finest attractions of this climb.

Passing through Sagarmatha National Park and Makalu Barun National Park, diverse flora and fauna, including beautiful Rhododendrons, fill the trails. Since it is comparatively easier than other peaks, it is ideal for beginners who want to learn mountaineering skills. You can combine Mera Peak with Island Peak since they are near but are separated by a high mountain range.

The 4 Days Mera Peak Climbing offers vistas of the Himalayas, stunning landscapes, and diverse flora and fauna. It is a challenging and rewarding journey for a thrilling adventure in a relatively short time frame.

Highlights of 4 Days Mera Peak Climbing

  • Astonishing view of mountains over 8000, Mt Everest, Mt Kanchenjunga, Mt Cho-Oyu, Makalu, and Lhotse.
  • Explore the quaint villages and the rich local cultures of Hinku valley.
  • Climb Nepal’s highest trekking peak.
  • Enjoy the diverse flora and fauna, including beautiful Rhododendron forest.

Best Season to Visit

Season and climate play a vital role in this trek. Since this is a very demanding and technical climb, it is important to have good weather. The best season to climb this peak is spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November). This season comes with fewer challenges as compared to winter and monsoon seasons. The trails are in the best condition and offer a beautiful view with a clear atmosphere and blue skies.

Other requirements

Insurance policy

High mountains are not the kind of places you want to travel without an insurance policy. Travel insurance has become part of trekking requirements. If you ever have some medical emergencies, your travel insurance will have to bear it, and that is why you need to mention the details about the places you are going to and the altitudes you will be reaching.

Valid visas/passports

All foreigners except Indians are required to have valid visas and passports to enter Nepal. The visa application will need the passport having a minimum of 6 months of validation along with your passport size photo. You will receive your visa upon your arrival at Tribhuwan International Airport.

Frequently Asked Questions

Temperature and weather
The temperature and weather in mountains or higher altitudes can be unpredictable and very harsh sometimes. The temperature can drastically drop at any time with a lot of snowfall. Warm and non-rainy days are best for climbing the peak so if there is a serious weather change it can affect your peak climbing. The average temperature in the autumn (September-November) is 12 degrees Celsius in the daytime while it is around 6-8 degrees Celsius at night time. October is the best season to trek this place. The autumn season has a clean atmosphere and blue skies. The average temperature in spring (March-May) is 10 degrees Celsius in the daytime and -4 degrees Celsius in the nighttime. The average temperature in summer or monsoon season is around 15 degrees Celsius in the daytime and can fall slightly when it rains. The winter season being the coldest season has a temperature around -30 degrees Celsius above the base camp. It can get very windy and extreme cold due to heavy snowfall.
Food and accommodation
Accommodation-the 4 days package of Mera peak climbing includes teahouse trek in Khare and the camping for base camp and high camp. In Khare, there are teahouses that provide a small room with twin sharing beds, blankets, and pillows to make your nights are comfortable. Some teahouses also offer hot water for a shower at an extra cost. The teahouses here might cost you around 2-6$. Once you cross Khare, you need to do camping for a few nights. It is recommended to carry all the good quality camping stuff like tents and sleeping bags. It is better to travel through travel agencies. They will manage everything for you. Food- enough options for food are available in Khare, Traditional Dal, Bhat, fresh Vegetables, potatoes, bread, eggs, boiled water, teas, pasta etc. However, once you cross Khare, you will be camping overnight and you need to prepare your food by yourself. If you belong to any travel agencies they will hire a cook for you and prepare food like Dal, Bhat, noodles, pasta, eggs, bread, etc.
Guides and porters
Guides and porters are definitely one of the most important parts of this trek. Since Mera peak is one of the moderately tough destinations, you will need a proper guide to lead you. It is better if you trek through agencies. They hire well-educated, English-speaking guides for you. If not you can also hire a local guide. They help you with directions, trails, accommodations, and many more. Guides usually charge 30-40$ per day. Porters are more than necessary in this trek. You will be carrying all the equipment for climbing, tents, food, etc. It is quite impossible to carry all this stuff by yourself and walk. Porters charge you 20-25 $ per day for carrying all your belongings. You need to know Porters only carry 25 kilos of weight.
Communication and electronics
Similarly, all the facilities like internet, electricity, and communication are available up to Khare. The teahouses might charge you a few extra dollars for these facilities. There are satellite phones available for communication. The internet might be slow but will definitely help you to connect with your friends and families. There are solar panels that provide enough electricity to charge your phones and other electronics. Once you cross Khare, all these facilities are not available. Extra batteries and power banks are highly recommended.
Safety and security
Even though the most climbed peak, the trail to Mera peak can be challenging. The roads are rough, steep, and can be snowy. Moreover, Peak climbing is always difficult and requires physical and mental preparations. You need to have extra fitness, it is better if experience in climbing, or have skills to use all the equipment. But this is certainly a good start for learners with proper mountaineering ideas. However, there is altitude or mountain sickness on other hand. Some symptoms of altitude sickness are shortness of breath, nausea, fast heartbeat, headache, dizziness, extra tiredness, etc. Staying hydrated throughout the journey, having nutritional food, avoiding alcohol, meats, and taking the journey slow so that you can adjust with increasing heights, are some of the solutions or precautions for altitude sickness. However, if you ever start experiencing these symptoms you need to immediately talk to your travel guide. There are also some medicines available for altitude sickness. If you decide not to climb the peak you can also enjoy your trek by staying in base camp.
