Chandragiri is a hill located on the southwest side of the Kathmandu valley. It lies at an altitude of 2551m and is just 7km from Thankot, Kathmandu. The place is popular for providing a panoramic view of Kathmandu city along with many mountains like Annapurna and Everest. To the west there is a beautiful view of Annapurna and Manaslu, to the north is the Magnificent Ganesh Himal, to the east is the Langtang Himal extending up to Gaurishankar. Sometimes if you are lucky enough, you get to see the beautiful view of Mount Everest itself. Chandragiri hills are very near to Kathmandu and has been the best spot for people. Besides being a viewpoint, Chandragiri is also a sacred place for Hindus. On the top of the hill, there is a Bhaleswor Mahadev temple, where many people worship and do prayers. There are also several spots where you can take photographs and also have a playground for children. They have restaurants and small stores where things are a little expensive than usual.

 

Chandragiri view point Tour with Cable Car

Besides Manakamana, there is a facility of a Cable car in Chandragiri hills too. Making it easier and accessible for every generation of people, there is a cable car operating from the very button of the hill to the top of the hill where the Bhaleswor Temple is located. It is a 10-14 minutes cable car ride to reach the top and 2.5 km long. If you are a trekker or like to hike, you can also skip the cable car ride and walk within the beautiful Chandragiri view point Tour. The roads are narrow and edgy, but definitely provide the thrill and adventure of trekking. It might take around 3 hours to trek. If you think the two ways price of cable car is expensive, you can ride the cable car to the top and hike back down.

Getting to Chandragiri hills
To reach Chandragiri, you can take a bus to Thankot which might take around 50 minutes. From Thankot, it is just 10 minutes’ walk to the button of a hill or from where the cable car ride starts. There is also a free bus service available from Bhat-Bhateni but it certainly takes longer than a regular bus. You can also hire a taxi to reach the button of the Chandragiri hills.
