What is fishing?

An activity, practice, of trying to catch a fish for food, sport, trade, etc. is called fishing. Fishing however, is not limited on catching a fish but also other aquatic species from waters like squid, octopus, turtles, etc. either for sustenance, as a business, or for sport. Trishuli River fishing

Trishuli River is originated from Gosaikunda and is one of the major tributaries of Narayani River which is another beautiful river in Nepal. Bhote Koshi and Betrawati as well joins the Trishuli River. It is formed by the melting snow of Ganesh Himal and Langtang Himal. This river holds a great religious value as it is believed that Lord Shiva drove his Trident into the ground for the creation of this river. Hence, the name Trishuli is kept after Lord Shiva’s Trident or “Trishul”. It is one of the most popular river for water experiences like rafting, kayaking, and fishing. Fishing in Trishuli River is one of the best experience one can have. There are several types of fish in this river. Some of them are Trout, River Eel, and Golden Mahaseer. Along with fishing, you get to see many beautiful rural settlements, green vegetation, hills etc. This fishing trip doesn’t take more than 3-4 days. Balephi River is located 73 km from Kathmandu, in Sindupalchok district. Balephi River is a white water river which is very narrow but rapid. This river originates from langtang Himal and other Himal is Langtang region. Balephi River is quite famous for activities like rafting, kayaking and fishing. Fish found here are not unique than the fish found in other rivers of Nepal. However, this river is getting more popular for golden/silver Mahaseer, trouts, and catfish which are commonly found here. The best months for fishing in this river are October to November and February to May. Besides fishing, you also get to see the beauty of Eastern Nepal and many local cultural villages of this area. This river is very near and easily accessible from Kathmandu. You need to take a bus from Kathmandu to Jalbire via Balephi bazar. You can start your fishing at any spot in Balephi River.

Budhi Gandaki River is originated from the eastern slopes of Manaslu and Ganesh Himal. This river lies in the Central and western development region Of Nepal and is almost 80 km far from Kathmandu. Flowing through the very famous Aarughat Bazar, this river joins Benighat, where Budhi Gandaki meets Trishuli River. Tamur River Fishing

Tamur River also known as “the jewel in the east”, is the 6th largest river in Nepal with the length of 120km. Tamur River is one of the new and less explored River in Nepal. The white fresh water of Tamur and its Tributaries flows from the mighty Mount Kanchenjunga, the 3rd highest peak in the world. Trip to Tamur valley is a combination of gorgeous river, unspoiled nature, stunning view of Everest and Kanchenjunga. Tamur River is much complicated and technical fast flowing river in Nepal. The best season for fishing in Tamur River is from March to May and October to December. This adventurous trip takes around 6 days to complete.

You need to drive from Kathmandu to Biratnagar or take a 30 minutes flight. From Biratnagar further drive to Basantapur. From Basantapur you need to trek up to Dovan which is basically starting point for fishing.

Karnali river fishing

Karnali River lies at the far western region and is the longest river in Nepal which is 180km. It flows from the base of the Mount Kailash, a sacred mountain in Tibet for Hindu and Buddhist. Water activities like rafting, kayaking and fishing in Karnali River is the most desired and preferred destination and activities for people who like adventure. The river passes through remote areas and jungle with many wildlife, plants, and fish and ends at the Bardia National Park. Wonderful combination of Nature and white water canyon makes fishing in Karnali so beautiful and mesmerizing. Fishing in Karnali River is one of the best experience due to the wide range of aquatic life that are found here which includes Dolphins, soft shelled turtles, Golden Mahaseer fish, trout, etc. This river is especially best for Mahaseer fishing. You can reach Karnali by following the route of Kathmandu to Surkhet (20 hours’ drive) and again a drive to Kalyani (4 hours’ drive), and 2 hours trek to Karaleghat.
